Industry Leaders, MDOT Hold Roundtable Ahead of 2027 Legislative Session
Michael Sakata, President and CEO of the Maryland Transportation Builders & Materials Association (MTBMA), met yesterday with Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Secretary Katie Thomson and top agency officials.
The industry-agency roundtable focused on transportation funding, safety priorities, and long-term project planning heading into the 2027 state legislative session. Joining Secretary Thomson were key MDOT decision-makers, including Assistant Secretary for Project Development Joe McAndrew, Assistant Secretary for Government Affairs Drew Morrison, SHA Deputy Chief Engineer Sushmita Mitra, MDTA Executive Director Bruce Gartner, and SHA Program Delivery Director Jeff Folden. MTBMA Vice Chair Stephen R. Skippen also represented the contracting and engineering sector.
Sakata described the meeting as a productive partnership aimed at giving contractors and engineers a predictable, transparent program to build around.

She is by no means a “ local water woman” and the fact that she claims that shows that she has no idea what that means. My husband’s family were waterman and to claim that someone who has lived her for two years and tried to learn how to captain a ferry boat compares at all is disrespectful. A waterman’s life is made up of 18 hour days or longer, backbreaking work and danger. Shame on her.
