The Maryland Judiciary’s case search tells a stark story. Garrett Alexis Hill, 24, of Huntingtown, faces two felony charges — first‑degree assault and third‑degree sexual offense with serious injury — plus a misdemeanor second‑degree assault. A warrant for his arrest was issued on November 14, 2025, but quickly quashed after his lawyer assured the court Hill would appear under summons.

Quashed doesn’t mean cleared. If Hill is convicted or pleads guilty on the sex offense charge, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life. That designation follows a man forever — public registry, neighborhood alerts, the permanent shadow of a violent sexual crime.

The young woman at the center of this case first went to the Young Democrats of Maryland board for help. Instead of support, she was met with a cover‑up. State chair Ruben Amaya, now a candidate for Baltimore County Council, brought in party insider Robbie Leonard — a cheeseball lawyer by any definition — who tried to pressure her into signing an NDA. What could have been handled with compassion and maturity was turned into a procedural mess and a betrayal of trust.

Amaya is not evil, but this episode shows he lacks the maturity for elected office. A candidate who responds to a victim’s plea by orchestrating a cover‑up with a cheeseball attorney demonstrates poor judgment and weak leadership.

Leonard’s role deserves scrutiny. Why was a prominent Maryland Democratic figure chosen to handle this? His record is littered with failed campaigns — a loss to Chris West in a state senate race, another loss for Baltimore County State’s Attorney. Voters have consistently seen him as unserious, a virtue‑signaling progressive rather than a credible leader. His handling of this case only reinforces that perception.

Cheeseball Robbie Leonard

Years ago, Leonard tried to cancel me in the fever of Twitter‑era politics, demanding people choose between him and me. He failed. My readership grew stronger, his influence shrank. That history makes me less tolerant of his antics now. He is a bully, and not a particularly smart one.

The Garrett Hill case is not just about one defendant. It is about how institutions respond when a young woman seeks help. The Young Democrats of Maryland failed her. Ruben Amaya showed immaturity. Robbie Leonard showed incompetence. And Garrett Hill still faces charges that, if proven, will mark him for life.
