The nonprofit industrial complex is alive and well in Maryland at both the state and county levels. David Reel’s op ed details inability of state agencies to track funds.

We have seen this play out in multiple boards and commissions which are stacked with insiders, public funding then allocated, grant programs established, then awards provided to preferred nonprofits. The Maryland Alcohol Manufacturing and Promotion Fund dispersed nearly 70% of 4MM to three trades. The fifth cycle concluded in November, the Fund is in limbo and 27 applicants applying for 1.6MM were actually competing for under 200K. There is still no answer from the Office of Tourism Development that administers the Fund.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
