Dems will over extend their majority-minority districts, risk a federal/supreme court slam dunk, not to mention SAVE act or census on the horizon. All because Moore had some half promise about the 28 presidential nominee.

How will the General Assembly get around the July 1 deadline?

I believe they exempted themselves in the new law HB2100

Thanks. Can they do that? GA's an entire body of mostly lawyers; they must have something in mind! Didn't they establish that deadline just recently?

Maryland lacks the tradition of legal consistency found in many other states—a pattern largely shaped by long-time Senate President Mike Miller. I recently reviewed a ream of paperwork from one of his deals. In almost any other jurisdiction, it would have been blatantly illegal. But in Maryland, the General Assembly and Miller drafted the law so that the deal wasn't just legal, but legally required.

It’s outrageous. While many would call it crooked, under Maryland law, it’s completely above board. Miller was a master at drafting legislation that made dirty deals entirely legal. Passing a law that sets a restriction, only to pass a subsequent law exempting specific interests from it, is standard practice here. It isn't seen as corrupt; it’s just business as usual.

Consider a hypothetical: the legislature could pass a law setting a speed limit at 65 mph, and then pass an exception allowing anyone born in February to drive 75 mph. If there were a lucrative enough reason to do it, they just might. They haven't gone quite that far, but under Maryland's system, they certainly could.
