Sources close to the process describe a transactional alliance: Patoka and Ertel carve out a safe district for Ertel to run in. In exchange, Councilman David Marks helps protect Republican turf on the east side. The payoff? Marks backs Patoka’s bid for County Executive—because Republicans see Patoka as the most conservative-friendly Democrat in the race.
Ertel’s role? Less partner, more pawn. His district is drawn not to represent, but to shield. His loyalty to Patoka raises serious questions about whether he’s serving constituents or simply serving ambition.

Izzy Patoka’s hunger for executive power has led him to a dangerous place—one where ambition overrides accountability, and voters become bargaining chips. If this is the leadership style he intends to bring to the County Executive’s office, voters should take note. And take caution.
