New Client Update Lobbying Maryland
Registration Deadline is October 31st so this is an interesting time to look at the game.
The AI Lab and the Defense Giant Walk Into Annapolis
Two of the biggest names in American technology just bought themselves a presence in Maryland’s capital, and the State Ethics Commission’s newest filings tell the story.
Anthropic, the artificial-intelligence company, registered five lobbyists through Manis Canning & Associates on September 24 — Samira Jackson, Andrea Mansfield, Joseph Bryce, John Favazza, and Nicholas Manis — to work legislation and regulations on artificial-intelligence safety, governance, and oversight. Five lobbyists is a statement: the largest single-client team in the fortnight’s filings, and a signal that AI governance has arrived as an Annapolis lobbying matter just as Maryland’s new privacy law takes hold.
Defense-Technology Company
Not to be outdone, Anduril Industries — the defense-technology company — registered four lobbyists through Cornerstone Government Affairs on October 6: Bernie Marczyk, Patrick Hogan, Tiffany Harvey, and Delora Sanchez Ifekauche, listed for “software and technology solutions.”
Why it is Important
Here’s why the timing matters: October 31 is the registration deadline, which makes right now the annual roster-lock season — firms are signing clients before the 2027 session takes shape. An AI lab and a defense-tech giant staffing up in the same fortnight tells you where at least two of next year’s fights will be.
Below the paywall: all 29 new registrations — every lobbyist, every client, every subject matter, from the municipal money rush to the busiest shop of the fortnight.
