You may wish to double check my chronology:

The Government, Labor and Elections Committee is not a new committee for 2027. It already existed and operated during the 2026 legislative session.

The Maryland General Assembly’s official 2026 roster lists Government, Labor, and Elections, chaired by Del. Melissa Wells with Del. Kenneth Kerr as vice chair. Its jurisdiction is Government Operations, State Procurement, State Personnel, Ethics, Elections, Collective Bargaining, Correctional Facilities & Services, County/Bi-County/Municipal Governance, and Alcoholic Beverages.

And this isn’t merely an interim reorganization. Actual 2026 bills were referred to and heard by GLE.

The restructuring split the former Health and Government Operations (HGO) portfolio. The official fiscal note for HB 554 expressly describes the renaming of HGO to the Health Committee and refers to the new House Government, Labor, and Elections Committee, including conforming changes to subject-matter jurisdiction. HB 554 took effect June 1, 2026, but the House had already organized GLE for the 2026 session.

2025 structure: Health and Government Operations; no GLE.

2026 structure: Health + Government, Labor, and Elections.

Current official House structure: still Health + GLE.
