How a State Medevac Helicopter Was Turned Into a Mayoral Campaign Photo Op

OCEAN CITY, MD — A mounting scandal involving Ocean City Council President and Mayoral candidate Matt James has raised severe questions regarding government ethics, municipal charter violations, and the potential misuse of critical emergency state assets.

At the center of the controversy is Trooper 4—a full-time, 24-hour emergency medical and rescue helicopter operated by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command out of Salisbury. Designed and funded specifically to provide rapid trauma transport and life-saving aerial search-and-rescue for the Delmarva region, Trooper 4 was recently deployed to transport Matt James for an aerial tour of coastal storm damage.

Questions exploded locally following the appearance of campaign advertisements in the OC Today-Dispatch for James’s mayoral bid. The ad featured photographs showcasing Trooper 4 (tail number N381MD) along with text thanking the Maryland State Police Aviation Command for facilitating his “aerial assessment of the damage.”
