Maryland just made history.
Governor Wes Moore has officially declared September 29 as Maryland 529 Education Savings Day, shining a spotlight on one of the most powerful tools Maryland families have to build brighter futures.
This proclamation comes at a moment when Maryland 529 is dominating national rankings. Under the leadership of Treasurer Dereck E. Davis, the program has surged to the top — and last week’s national awards prove it. Maryland earned a perfect 5 out of 5 rating and a Best in Class distinction from Saving for College, placing the state among the strongest education savings programs in the country.
Treasurer Davis’s commitment to excellence includes recognizing exceptional talent. His appointment of Deputy State Treasurer Courtney Finklea Green, who joined the State Treasurer’s Office in 2023, has been a driving force behind Maryland 529’s transformation. Her leadership has helped modernize operations, rebuild trust, and deliver the kind of performance that puts Maryland at the top of national charts.
Education Savings Day celebrates that momentum. It encourages families across the state to invest in their children’s futures and highlights Maryland’s leadership in college affordability and long‑term financial planning.
