Closed primaries. Horrible gerrymandering. A weak and often extreme GOP. No term limits. None of this internecine conflict is shocking. Playing the race card also comes much too naturally. Maryland's democracy is a caricature.
I’m waiting for Corderman, Hershey, and Bailey to form a coalition and create a power block: an independent economic development governance unit for 18 counties and three regions representing 75% of the working landmass and remove decisions from the Commerce Department.
Time to remove “rural” from the state lexicon.
Eliminate the “poverty” and “resilience” narrative - ridiculous in a tiny state bisected by I95 that these regions continue to accept capital allocation crumbs.
The only losers? The nonprofit industrial complex that sprung up to prop up lack of capital investment. Comptrollers Office complicit in its persistent use of home grown tax codes that do not measure the state’s full economic contributions.
Most Marylanders don’t care about the political side show focused on “maps.”
